Tell us about the floor

Room sizes in square metres, what is down at the moment, and a photo if you have one. That is enough for us to come back with a rate and an honest view on whether what you already have is worth restoring.

Useful things to include

• Approximate area in square metres, room by room
• What is down now: tile, carpet, parquet, bare slab
• Ground floor or upstairs, which changes whether damp is a factor
• Whether the building is occupied, because grinding and sanding need the space empty

If there is an old floor under the carpet

Lift a corner and photograph it before you decide anything. In the older Karen, Muthaiga, Lavington and Parklands houses there is frequently parquet or terrazzo under later coverings, and restoring it is usually both cheaper and better than laying new.
