Floor Repair in Nairobi: Fixing What Is There
Find the cause before patching the symptom
A floor that has failed in one place has usually failed for a reason that is still there. Repairing the visible damage without finding the cause means doing it again in a year, which is most of the repair work we are called in to redo.
What we are usually called to
Lifted or cupped timber. Almost always moisture: a leak, a slab without a barrier, or boards laid too wet. The boards are the symptom; the moisture source is the job.
Drummy tiles, tiles that sound hollow when tapped. The adhesive never bonded, usually because the substrate was dusty or the adhesive was spread too thin. If a few are drummy the rest of that area usually is too.
Cracked terrazzo. Either the slab beneath has moved, or the divider strips were set badly or omitted. Cutting in a repair without addressing the movement puts the crack straight back.
Water-damaged laminate. Rarely repairable. Laminate swells irreversibly at the joints, and the honest advice is usually replacement of the affected run: which is exactly why we suggest SPC instead in kitchens and ground-floor flats.
Worn parquet blocks that have lifted from old mastic. Re-bedded individually and then sanded with the rest of the floor, these come back very well.
Matching is imperfect and we will say so
An old floor cannot be matched exactly. Timber has darkened, terrazzo mixes are no longer made, a discontinued tile is discontinued. We will show you the closest match we can get and let you decide whether a visible repair is acceptable before we start, rather than after.
Where a floor is beyond sensible repair we will say that too. Patching a floor that needs replacing is the most expensive way to delay the decision.
